CBD Dosage: How Much Should I Take?

Have you ever thought about taking CBD, only to find yourself feeling a little unsure about the dosing process and what this might mean for your own needs? There are countless ways to take CBD, from standard CBD oils to gummies, tinctures, and much more. As such, we strongly recommend you consider the options available to help you find the ideal product for your needs.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

Answering how much CBD oil you should take isn’t always easy since many different factors are at play here. Of course, considering that a low dosage of CBD may not have the results you’re hoping for in terms of your well-being is worth considering. However, taking far too much CBD per day can potentially increase your risk of side effects (don’t worry – the side effects of CBD are usually more of an inconvenience than anything).

There’s No One-Size-Fits-All Answer!

One of the first things you should remember when thinking about CBD dosing is that there is no one size fits all approach. Many people assume that a flat rate of CBD will give them the benefits they’ve been looking for. However, this will largely depend on your own body regarding how CBD is metabolised and used, so there is no “one-size-fits-all” answer.

Of course, that does make working out a suitable dose a little harder, but don’t worry – it’s not rocket science!

Things you should consider when looking at how much CBD you should take:

Your age. Generally speaking, older individuals will need to take more CBD than younger adults to get the desired well-being benefits, such as improved sleep quality. As such, your age should definitely play a part in determining how much CBD you should take to begin with.

Your height and weight. Naturally, taller people who are heavier in weight will need to take a slightly higher dose of CBD again than those who are shorter or lighter. As such, take care to factor this into your decision as to how much CBD is right for you!

What do you want to use the CBD for. Depending on what you are trying to achieve, you may take CBD less or more often and at different times of the day. For example if you are looking to promote a better nights sleep then you may want to take some more CBD before bed.

How Much CBD Should I Take?

There’s no specific range for how much CBD you should take, but when starting out, it’s important to consider the FSA’s recommendation of 70mg of CBD per day. Starting with around 20 to 35mg of CBD per day, for example, then slowly increasing this dose to higher levels over time could be highly rewarding in many cases.

We’d recommend taking a slow approach to begin with to ensure you don’t experience any mild side effects of CBD oil. Side effects are fortunately pretty rare, but some people experience mild side effects such as slight diarrhoea. If you experience any of these side effects as a result of your own CBD use, we recommend stopping the use of CBD immediately or cutting down the dosage to ensure the side effects don’t persist.

Start Out Slowly with CBD Oil

The most important thing to remember when working out what dose of CBD oil is right for you is to start slowly. Taking CBD at small doses initially, then slowly increasing this with time allows your body to respond to the CBD gradually. This may reduce the risk of experiencing side effects because your body has not seen CBD before. Increasing your dose of CBD gradually every day can be an excellent way to ensure that you find the right dosage for you, too – after several days, if you find that 60mg of CBD isn’t enough to boost your sleep, you could increase it further. Otherwise, if this seems to be a good change for your sleep quality, feel free to maintain your daily dosage at this level.

Calculating CBD Dosing

Dosing CBD supplements is, luckily, a very simple process. The easiest way to dose CBD supplements is to use a product such as CBD gummies (etc.). CBD gummies contain a set level of CBD overall, making it easier to control your dosage. However, if you’re looking for a cost-effective long-term dosage plan, reaching for a bottle of CBD oil will save you even more money! However, CBD oil is marginally more difficult to dose since it requires more care.

Generally speaking, most CBD oils will contain a measure of how much CBD is contained within each drop. Low-potency CBD oils are great options if you’re new to CBD, as they allow you to experiment with dosing without having to worry about taking too much CBD at once.

For example, our low-potency 3% CBD oil is almost eight times milder than our high-strength CBD oil; as such, if you aren’t sure you can accurately measure out just one or two drops, to begin with, starting with our milder option can help ensure that you have more room for error. Then, once you’re confident you can control the drops more accurately, feel free to upgrade to a stronger CBD oil that requires fewer drops to see the same benefit.

Always Consider the Strength of the Product!

When dosing CBD oil, it’s always crucial to consider the strength or potency of your chosen product and use this to inform your dosing decisions. For example, our full-spectrum range of CBD products may have a more significant result per mg of CBD compared to 100% CBD supplements, which only provide CBD without additional cannabinoids.

In addition, when working out how much CBD you should take, carefully consider the amount of CBD per drop. Once you know how much CBD is in each drop of oil, you can then simply divide your target CBD dosing goal (for example – 60mg) by the amount of CBD per drop (e.g. 6mg per drop for our 6% CBD oil). This will tell you how many drops of CBD oil you need to take to reach your CBD dosing goal as well as understanding that those bigger bottles of CBD don’t necessarily have more CBD inside the bottle but are usually ‘watered-down’ or in this case ‘oiled-down’.
